We invite submissions for a Special Issue of Sustainability, entitled “Earthquake Source Imaging and Rupture Process.” We aim to gather works from earthquake scientists on a broad field of aspects related to the characterization of earthquake sources, involving physical, numerical and observational issues in a magnitude ranging from tiny events to the world’s greatest earthquakes.
Earthquake ruptures imaged through a waveforms data or surface deformation measurements, interpreted in agreement with kinematics (or dynamics) physical models and computed using numerical algorithms that take advantage of the increasing computational power enable are examples of works we encourage. In particular, we encourage works that cover topics such as 1) forward modeling of large synthetic ground motion datasets; 2) earthquake source mechanism from full waveform inversion; 3) moment tensor inversion of micro-earthquakes; 4) static and dynamic triggering phenomena, induced seismicity and earthquake cycles; 5) rapid determination of source parameters based on waveforms and geodetic data; 6) characterization of finite fault rupture processes as geometry, directivity, rupture velocity anisotropy.
In summary, this Special Issue aims to provide a further understanding of the recent physical models and the methods and the techniques that allows a robust imaging of the earthquake source as the basis for interpretation of earthquakes with respect to the causative faults and the tectonic systems. We also welcome works which further the state-of-the-art developments in the related computational and numerical aspects.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI’s English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
