  • Notice for the opening of an internacional selection tender procedure for the hiring of Doctorate(s) under the legal regime of scientific employment

An international selection tender is open for recruitment, in the form of an uncertain term contract celebrated under the Labour Code, of 1(one) doctoral researcher position Assistant Researcher under private law, for the exercise of scientific research in the scientific area of Geology, within the scope of the launched under the Programme Contract concluded with FCT on 4 September 2018 with reference No. CEECINST/00156/2018 and its Addendum of 23 January 2020, within the framework of the Competitive Institutional Support Procedure with a view to scientific research activities in the scientific area of Geology, specifically on Environmental Geology.   • The University of Évora (Portugal) opens calls to award two Research Grants for a PhD student in the framework of the project “PyroC.pt: Advanced wildfire modelling for risk assessment and pyroconvection understanding in Portugal”

Grant 1: for a student with a Master’s degree in the field of agricultural, environmental or earth sciences to work on “Forest fuel mapping at high Resolution”, “Coupling SURFEX-Fuel Model” and “Seasonal wildfire risk assessment”, including the following tasks:

(i) Improvement of the characterization of forest fuel, participating in observation campaigns in the forest and using data from the Sentinel-2 satellite.
(ii) Integration of a parameterization of forest fuel in the surface model platform, SURFEX, used by weather forecast models.
(iii) Development of a system for a seasonal risk assessment of forest fires based on SURFEX simulations forced by numerical weather forecasts.
Grant 2: for a student with a Master’s degree on Earth and Atmospheric sciences or related areas, to work on Wildfire modelling and pyroconvection including the following tasks:
(i) Performing numerical simulations with the coupled Meso-NH – ForeFire model in order to reproduce the complex interaction between fire and atmosphere;
(ii) Carry out simulations based on improved fuel models, seeking a better representation of forest fires and pyro-convection..
(iii) Analyze the numerical results in order to obtain a better understanding of PyroCb clouds, which should be supported by remote sensing observations, namely from meteorological radar and lidar.

  • Concurso para investigador em modelação numérica aplicada a Ciências da Terra, em regime de contrato de trabalho em funções públicas a termo resolutivo certo pelo prazo de três anos, eventualmente renovável por períodos de um ano até à duração máxima de seis anos.
Aceitam-se propostas em todas as áreas das Ciências da Terra, mas serão privilegiadas as seguintes áreas prioritárias:

a) Modelação hidrológica e limnológica, à escala de grandes bacias hidrológicas, para aplicações na previsão da quantidade e qualidade da água e na construção de cenários futuros da disponibilidade de água no contexto da mudança climática na região mediterrânica

b) Modelação do transporte de aerossóis e de bio-aerossóis na atmosfera e das interações aerosol-radiação, com aplicações à previsão polínica e aos impactos das alterações do uso da terra e do clima na saúde.

 

International selection contest for the position of doctor for the exercise of scientific research activities in the scientific area of in numerical modeling applied to Earth Sciences under a fixed term public service work contract regime with the duration of three years, possibly renewable for periods of one year up to a maximum duration of six years.

 

Proposals are accepted in all areas of Earth Sciences, but the following priority areas will be privileged:
a) Hydrological or limnological modeling, on the scale of large hydrological basins, for applications in water quantity and quality forecasting and in developing scenarios of future water availability in the context of climate change in the Mediterranean region.
b) Modeling aerosol and bio-aerosol transport in the atmosphere and aerosol-radiation interactions, with applications to pollen forecast and health impacts of land use and climate changes The selected candidate may have to ensure 4 hours of weekly classes in curricular units that may be distributed to them.
