Muography and the LouMu Project
Orador: Pedro Teixeira
Orador: Pedro Teixeira
Abstract:
Muography is a non-invasive probing technique that uses muons, a natural background radiation with some penetrating power, to observe the interior of the structures crossed by muons. With detectors suitable for observing the terrestrial subsurface, it is possible to create muographs, images with the information about the density distribution of the observed region.
Internationally, this technique has already been applied in several areas. In Portugal, it is being applied for the first time in the geophysical area, through the LouMu Project, to carry out a geological reconnaissance of the Lousal Mine.
