Portuguese, born in Seixal in 1961. Graduated in Geology by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) in 1984 and did the examination equivalent to Master’s degree in the same Faculty in 1989. PhD in Geology from the University of Évora in 1995 (specialization in Structural Geology). He obtains the “habilitation” (“Agregação”) in Earth and Space Science by the University of Évora in 2016 (area of expertise in Geological Processes). He was trainee assistant and assistant at FCUL (1985-93) and external professor at the University of Madeira (1996). He teaches at the Department of Geosciences of the University of Évora since 1993, initially as assistant (1993-95), after assistant professor (1995-2001), associate professor (2001-2016) and associate professor with habilitation (2016 to the present). At FCUL he was one of the founders of the Laboratory of Tectonophysics and Experimental Tectonics (1990), of which he was a member until 1999. From 1999 to 2015 he was member of the Geophysics Center of Évora (CGE) and of the Institute of Earth Sciences ) since its beginning in 2015. Throughout his career, he has held and holds positions of coordination and direction: Member of the University Assembly of FCUL (1989-93); Twice Deputy (1995-96 and 1999-2001) and once Chairman of the Geosciences Department Council (1996-99); Director of the graduations in Engineering of Geological Resources (1996-2003) and in Sciences of the Earth and the Atmosphere (2007-13); Vice-President of the Direction of the Departamental Area of Natural Sciences and Environment (1996-97) and Vice-President of the Scientific Council of the same Departmental Area (1997-99); Member of the University Assembly (1997-99); By decision of the rectory, he represented the University of Évora in the specialized commission of the Portuguese Universities Foundation, for cooperation with Timor (1999-2003) and was coordinator of the Regional Network of Science and Technology of Alentejo (2008-10); He was the coordinator of the groups of Tectonics (2001), Dynamics of Geological Processes (2005-09) and Tectonics and Risks (2011-15) of CGE; Vice-President of the Pedagogical Council of the University of Évora (2001-03); Vice-President of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Geologists (2004-07); Member of the Statutory Assembly, responsible for the revision of the statutes of the University of Évora (2008); Member of the General Council of the University of Évora (2008-12); Member of the direction of the Group of Structural Geology and Tectonics of the Geological Society of Portugal – SGP (2010-13); Vice President of the CGE (2011-15); Sub-director of the School of Sciences and Technology of the University of Évora (2013 to present); Coordinator of the ICT pole of Évora (2013 to present); Vice President of SGP since 2018. He participates in several national and international research projects in the area of Geological Cartography and Structural Geology and has participated in the teams of more than 20 research projects and led 3. He participated in the organization or in the scientific commissions of 19 meetings. He co-authored 10 guide books on geological excursions and 21 technical reports; He contributed to the edition of 5 sheets of the Geological Chart of Portugal and has developed applied research in Portugal, Cape Verde, Brazil and Dominican Republic.

 

Present research and interests: Structural Geology and Tectonics; Geological mapping; Neotectonics and Seismotectonics.

 

Português, nasceu no Seixal em 1961. Licenciou-se em Geologia pela Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) em 1984 e fez provas equivalentes de mestrado na mesma Faculdade em 1989. Doutorou-se em Geologia pela Universidade de Évora em 1995 (especialidade em Geologia Estrutural). Realizou provas de Agregação na Universidade de Évora em Ciências da Terra e do Espaço, área de especialização em Processos Geológicos em 2016. Foi assistente estagiário e assistente na FCUL (1985-93) e professor visitante na Universidade da Madeira (1996). É docente do Departamento de Geociências da Universidade de Évora desde 1993, inicialmente na categoria de assistente (1993-95), depois de professor auxiliar (1995-2001), de professor associado (2001-2016) e professor associado com agregação (2016 ao presente). Na FCUL foi um dos fundadores do Laboratório de Tectonofísica e Tectónica Experimental (1990) do qual foi membro até 1999. De 1999 a 2015 foi membro do Centro de Geofísica de Évora (CGE) e passou a integrar o Instituto de Ciências da Terra (ICT) desde a sua criação, em 2015. Ao longo da sua carreira desempenhou e continua a desempenhar cargos de coordenação e de direção: Membro da Assembleia Universitária da FCUL (1989-93); Duas vezes adjunto (1995-96 e 1999-2001) e uma vez Presidente do Conselho de Departamento de Geociências (1996-99); Director de Curso das licenciaturas em Engenharia de Recursos Geológicos (1996-2003) e de Ciências da Terra e da Atmosfera (2007-13); Vice-Presidente do Conselho Directivo da Área Departamental de Ciências da Natureza e do Ambiente (1996-97) e Vice-Presidente do Conselho Científico da mesma Área Departamental (1997-99); Membro da Assembleia Universitária (1997-99); Por nomeação da reitoria, foi representante da Universidade de Évora na comissão especializada da Fundação das Universidades Portuguesas, para a cooperação com Timor (1999-2003) e coordenador da Rede Regional de Ciência e Tecnologia do Alentejo (2008-10); Coordenador dos grupos de Tectónica (2001), de Dinâmica de Processos Geológicos (2005-09) e de Tectónica Activa e Riscos (2011-15) do CGE; Vice-Presidente do Conselho Pedagógico da Universidade de Évora (2001-03); Vice-Presidente da Assembleia Geral da Associação Portuguesa de Geólogos (2004-07); Membro da Assembleia Estatutária responsável pela revisão dos estatutos da Universidade de Évora (2008); Membro do Conselho Geral da Universidade de Évora (2008-12); Membro da direcção do Grupo de Geologia Estrutural e Tectónica da Sociedade Geológica de Portugal – SGP (2010-13); Vice presidente do CGE (2011-15); Sub-director da Escola de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Évora (2013 ao presente); Coordenador do Pólo de Évora do ICT (2013 ao presente); Vice-presidente da SGP a partir de 2018.

Integra vários projetos de investigação nacionais e internacionais na área da Cartografia Geológica e Geologia Estrutural e já participou nas equipas de mais de 20 projectos de investigação e liderou 3. Fez parte de comissões organizadoras e/ou científicas de 19 encontros. É co-autor de 10 livros-guia de excursões geológicas, de 21 relatórios técnicos, contribuiu para a edição de 5 folhas da Carta Geológica de Portugal e tem desenvolvido investigação aplicada em Portugal, Cabo Verde, Brasil e República Dominicana.
