These events play an important role in Earth systems having a devastating impact on <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">society and the environment. Overall, understanding the dynamics behind these episodes is crucial for <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">developing strategies to improve disaster preparedness and response, as well as mitigating their impacts <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">on communities and ecosystems. Atmosphere is dedicating this Special Issue to publishing the latest <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">studies in the context of extreme weather events as they relate to climate and weather variability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The main topics to be presented in this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Flood, droughts, cold spells, heatwaves and climate studies;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Severe weather: hailstorms, tornadoes, heavy rainfall and lightning;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Polar lows, medicanes, tropical cyclones and torrential rains;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Extreme wildfires, smoke aerosol emission, transport and impacts on atmosphere and air <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">quality.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Use of remote sensing and Earth observations (EOs) for studying extreme events;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Modelling and forecasting extreme events;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">\uf0b7 Impact of extreme weather on society and early warning systems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We encourage contributions which present innovative research, reviews and case studies examining all <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">aspects of extreme weather events, from observation to numerical modelling results that are useful for <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">understanding these events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Keywords: extreme weather; wildfires; storms; floods; droughts; hurricanes<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Print Special Issue Flyer<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dr. Flavio T.
