However, it is well-recognised that climate changes are altering wildfire activity worldwide, with an increasing number of events presenting extreme fire behaviour. Wildfires can occur naturally from lightning strikes or due to human factors, and smoke aerosols emitted from fires greatly influence air quality, weather, and climate.\u00a0<em>Atmosphere<\/em>\u00a0is dedicating this Special Issue to publishing the latest studies in the context of wildfires as they relate to climate and weather variability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">The main topics to be presented in this Special Issue include, but are not limited to: 1) climate changes and fire risk\/vulnerability assessment; 2) atmospheric circulation and mega fires; 3) fire\u2013weather interactions and modelling; 4) pyro-convection activity; 5) use of remote sensing and Earth observations (EOs) for studying wildfires; 6) lightning and natural forest fires; and 7) smoke aerosol emission, transport, and impacts on atmosphere and air quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We encourage contributions which present innovative research, reviews and case studies examining all aspects of wildfires, from observation to numerical modelling results that are useful for understanding these extreme events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Dr. Flavio T.
